2024 DAISY Awards

2024-awards

2024 – Nurse Leader Award Dylan Palazzo

Dylan leads with equanimity—bringing calm, clarity, and compassion to even the most high-stress situations in Surgical Services. He listens without judgment, seeks input before acting, and supports his team in whatever way is needed, whether stepping into clinical roles, advocating for staffing, or being available at any hour. Especially during difficult cases, he prioritizes the well-being of his team by checking in personally and creating safe spaces for debriefing without fear or blame. Never motivated by title or recognition, Dylan focuses on lifting others, strengthening teamwork, and modeling a people-first approach that empowers individuals and elevates patient care at Kona Community Hospital.

Brent Realin – 2024, 4th Quarter

Though he’s a new nurse, Herald has already made a lasting impression with his kindness, patience, and genuine care for his patients. A family shared how Herald went above and beyond to make sure they felt supported during their loved one’s stay. His warm smile and thoughtful gestures, like taking time to sit and chat, truly showcased his compassionate spirit. Herald’s commitment to caring for others is an inspiration, and we’re so proud to have him on our team!

Kalani Cross Batangan- 2024, 2nd Quarter

Kalani, a charge nurse in our Emergency Room, skillfully manages staffing, patient care, and safety while always seeking opportunities to provide compassionate care. Recently, she went above and beyond to help a patient needing housing, clothing, and food, demonstrating her commitment to compassion and humanity.
Kalani never sees a stigma in patients facing difficult circumstances; she only sees individuals needing help. Her dedication and kindness embody compassionate nursing care, making her incredibly deserving of the Daisy Award.

Katie Gregg- 2024, 1st Quarter

Katie showcased extraordinary compassion and strength. The patient, burdened by the weight of what could have been a life-altering diagnosis, received consistent support. Katie’s care, marked by even the smallest gestures, provided comfort throughout the tense wait for the patient’s results. Her ability to foster calm, encourage rest, and keep spirits uplifted, especially during moments of high anxiety, speaks volumes of her empathy and professionalism. When the relief came with good news, Katie’s happiness and relief reflected the patient’s own, underscoring the deep connection and impact of her care.
